On ll/26/2018 a man came in to talk about one of the most depressing topics we have had to talk about in Mentoring In Medicine. His name was Dr. Hodge. He was explaining to us how the life expectancy is lowered in certain urban communicates because of the different health problems that they face.
The top 10 causes are
Heart Disease
Cancer
Stroke
Accidents (Unintentional Injuries)
Respiratory Diseases
Diabetes
Homicide
Kidney Disease
Alzheimer’s Disease
Septicemia
Many of these can be resolved and treated by health care facilites. Many people who lives in slums and poor areas cannot afford to go to places like this to resolve this issue.
The unintentional injuries include many things such as car accidents and many other things. However, in the Bronx, and urban community, one of these main accidents are overdose on drugs. He said many people in that borough have an opioid addiction. It has cost the lives of many.
Homicide is an issue that has taken 3% of the death issues in the black urban community.
All of these issues are important to resolve. However, the first step is to acknowledge that these issues exist. We learned today. It is time to spread the word.
